Details Geisha are Japanese professional female entertainers who perform Japanese arts such as tea ceromnies, traditional dance, singing and playing instruments such as the Shamisen (similar shape to a banjo but with 3 strings and no frets). Geisha are often hired to attend parties and gatherings at tea houses or Japanese restaurants. Their time is measured by the time it takes an incense stick to burn, and is called senko-dai (incense stick fee). They wear the traditional kimono and years of training is required to become a professional Geisha.
