As many of you know we at Japan Vintage Guitars are very passionate about Bacchus guitars. Our very first Bacchus was a hand made black T-Standard. When we received it we were totally amazed with the quality and sound. It changed the way we looked at guitars and certainly changed our direction. Since then we have become dedicated Bacchus fanatics. Now most of the 150+ pages on our website are dedicated to Bacchus and Deviser. We are the first International Distributor for Bacchus and we also have one of the largest and most comprehensive collections worldwide. This is a testament to the quality of their guitars.
This paper has been written to help you distinguish between the different series of guitars and provide some history on the brand. If you would like to comment on it please send us an email.

Deviser company information
Deviser are arguably the best boutique guitar manufacturer in Japan. They are the parent company of many well known brands.
Acoustic guitar production began in June 1977 under the Headway name. At the helm was Japans leading luthier, Yasuo Momose. Momose began his career with Fuji Gengakki in 1957 and then in the early 70's he began making his own acoustic guitar brands and soon Headway was born.
Headway started with a team of five employees. Their goal was to build the highest quality guitars in Japan. They worked with many of the major manufacturers of lawsuit era guitars, such as Greco, Burny, and Tokai. To have a great guitar business in Japan you had to be very good. Through the 70's and 80's there were hundreds of guitar manufacturers in Japan. Many were forced to close, unable to continue in the competitive environment. Headway continued to expand and then began electric guitar production in 1981. In 1983 they endured two fires, one completely destroying the factory. In 1994 the company structure changed and Deviser was formed.
Deviser currently have two factories in Japan. One is the Aska factory, producing the electric guitars, basses and custom made acoustics; the other is Asuka, producing acoustic guitars.
Deviser is now a large company with over 50 dedicated employees. Their luthiers are the best in Japan. Master builders such as Momose-san, Kiyohito Suzuka, Masayuki Takaesu and Satoru Yatsuzuka produce many guitar brands with Deviser. Such is the quality of their products, some have a 10 year warranty within Japan and others have a lifetime warranty.
Deviser's guitars were originally produced only for the Japanese domestic market, but thanks to the internet revolution they soon became known worldwide. They have a large base of distributors in Japan, Asia and even Australia. They often introduce their new ranges at Music China, Yokohama Music Festival and NAMM.
It is testament to Deviser that they not only survived, but have continued to strengthen and expand their business to the success it is today. Deviser has achieved their goal and we are privileged to watch history in the making.

Bacchus guitars
There are many series of Bacchus guitars from Deviser. They make a guitar to suit every budget. Initially making copy guitars, as many Japanese companies did, they soon created their own original designs.
The Bacchus research and development team design their own original pick-ups and they are made by 'Keiyo' in Japan. These are currently used in the 'Handmade' and 'Craft series' and previously in the 'Vintage series', and they sound amazing.
All Bacchus guitars, regardless of where they are made, are subject to a final quality control by Deviser in Japan before being sold. Their quality control is second to none and the reason why every guitar delivered is in top condition and ready to be played.
Bacchus serial numbers
Bacchus guitars cannot be dated by the serial number. The serial number relates to a production sequence.
There are two separate serial number sequences.
One sequence is for guitars with a neck plate and another for guitars with an inked serial number.
Below is a list of some of the series of Bacchus guitars.
